| Message: | I have an S-Type 4.2 with the same 6HP26 ZF Automatic Gearbox. I have had the software upgraded around 10 times now. I still LURCH badly. My Dealer cannot find any fault with my Gearbox and says it functions normally (while the AA in the UK, and the TCS is Switzerland find this Lurch easily). I am sure that this gearbox, if this Lurch is normal, would be unacceptable to BMW 7 Series and Bentley Coupe drivers (also fitted with the 6HP26 ZF Automatic Gearbox) I have documented all I can on my website over this problem - including feedback from many owners - and have an animation showing the Lurch : http://www.theLurch.com I have also found some technical details on the running of this 6HP26 ZF Automatic Gearbox : "The 6HP26 is not only more compact, but in test simulation it was shown to offer a 13% reduction in mass, 5% better acceleration, and a 5-7% fuel-consumption savings while offering "fundamentally better performance" than the standard five-speed automatic transmission it replaces, the 5HP24. Fuel consumption was achieved not only through the addition of the sixth gear, but via a new low viscosity oil developed by ZF as well as Stand-by-Control (SBC). SBC is an electronic control system that essentially controls the input clutch in the transmission so that the engine is disconnected from the driveline when the vehicle is stationary, even when in gear" I would presume the Lurch is caused by a software programming "fault" when determining teh time to release the clutch by the SBC electronic control system. Some owners also state that their Gearboxes need flushed with new oil. And Jaguar admit in their TSB S307-13 that : "It has been found that there is a fault with the clutch lining of the torque converter. A modified torque converter is now available to resolve the concern." A list of relevant TSBs can also be found on my website. Good luck with trying to get it fixed !! I have tried for over 2.5 years with no luck. Dave http://www.theLurch.com | ||||
