| Message: | | I have a 1987 XJ6 and it behaved just as you describe about cutting out and then it wouldn't start, then it would and would be fine and then it would do it again, finally I found out that it was the ignition, behind where the key is there is an electrical component that plugs into the back of where the key is and it is plugged into some more wiring that goes to the engine. when I replaced this component it solved the problem Good luck, I hope you find out what is wrong with your car. Check also to see if the linkage is not loose gear shift, automatics have to be in park to start so check to see if the linkage to this shifter is in the correct position. Mine wasn't and it caused some grief this I got this fixed...
