| Message: | Hello everyone!!! I am new to this section, however not new to RF. Now, before I share the story with you all on how I suddenly began to consider purchasing this car, let me get the questions out of the way and leave the treat for later ;) 1. Between the 91-96 XJS models, which are more prefered among the enthusiast and why? 2. I have been offered a 1994 XJS with a 6.0 V12 that has 43,000 miles. Although it has all servicing records and is in great shape, what should I worry about after aquiring a barely used XJS? My main concern was that the engine seals were hardened, but to my amazement, they are like new. 3. What components need to be replaced after the 50,000 to 75,000 mile mark? 4. How is the drivability of this car? Is it just a luxury crusier or a GT convertible vehicle? Also, how is reliability when the car is used mainly as a daily driver? 5. Do alot of XJS owners have issues with electronics down the road? Although I love BMW's, I hated not having control of my sunroof or windows when I had the electronical failure in the E38 before it was repaired? 6. Generally, how much is the average anual cost to keep the XJS in tip top condition when you do most of the work yourself? 7. Could you owners give me your personal experiances with the XJS between the years of 1991-1996? What in your opinion should I watch out for? Now for the story LOL.... In my spare time when I'm not cutting lawns, I detail a few of my neighbors vehicles. A lady down the street from me has two Mark III (91-96) XJS that I detail. Her daily driver is a 1992 XJS V12 that is dark blue/ tan interior with 174,000 miles and unless you look close up, you'd suspect the cars never been driven. The second one (which is the one I have the chance to get) is a 1994 XJS in a maroon red color/ tan interior with red piping and carpet with 43,000 miles just about. The interior looks barely used along with the interior. I went to detail the blue 92 and drive the red 94 around to give it a little use before the gas became unusable. When I return back to her home, I guess she saw me under the 94 and she asked me if everything were ok. Smelling the faint smell of fuel, I got under the hood and noticed the fuel lines were cracked. Free of charge, I tell her I would come back the next day with new ones from the dealership. She calls me the same night and offers me the opportunity to buy her XJS, the red one. She said "Hey, after seeing how you've kept up with the red Jaguar more than I have, I need a owner who would actually have time to enjoy the car. If you'd like, I will sell it to you for $2500 because it is of no monetary value to me so give me a call back or come to the house. The keys will be waiting for you to pick up." More than likely, I will buy the car but I just wanted to get some background history of these cars before I spend money on another vehicle. With me being a recent high school graduate going to college, owning a Dodge diesel and giving monthly payments to a friend in Canada for his 97 BMW 850ci, I don't know if I have the room in my wallet to recompensate for. The BMW is still in Canada and it will come down here once I'm able to pay for the federalization. THANKS FOR THE HELP YOU ALL...
