How to test for Blow By/Compression Testing

Message:

2 questions, what would be the best way to test for blow by,(oil pressure guage of some sort?at the sending unit?how much PSI?). And...knowing that my engine cannot be warmed up before doing a compression test, how accurate will it be? I am just looking for drastic problems-like blown head gasket etc. Will that be obvious even on a cold cranking engine?
