I'm still doing it that way. I've replaced two this way. One thing I've found is the Walmart replacements are not as rugged as the originals, but they are cheap and easy to change.

I've got pictures of it, but I've never found the time to upload them. Is there an easy way to post pics here?

It's easier to do than it is to type it out. I can change one in about a half hour.
