| Message: | | Have followed this thread, and previous related threads, with interest. I agree (1) it is a peace-of-mind issue; (2)that Grumpy's approach of researching first where to purchase your extended warranty is the only right way to do it; (3) the companies are in business to make money and play the odds, just as we as consumers play the odds. I only purchased the powertrain/drivetrain extended warranty on mine. 2 factors influenced my decision: First---there is no dealer closer than 165 miles to me, so "taking my car in" is not easy. And my independent mechanic (specializes Jags, BMWs and MBs), who is quite wonderful, does not accept the extended warranties---only cash or credit cards. I guess in retrospect, I could pay him and then fight the warranty company for reimbursement. Second---at the time of purchase I was feeling pretty tapped out and the thought of an additional $3500 just didn't sit right at the moment of decision.
If I had it to do over, I would probably still avoid the warranty because of the lack of easy access to a repair shop (dealer). If I had a dealer close by that was any good, I would do the Grumpy research and buy the peace of mind.
