| Message: | Hi, never owned a Jag before but will be purchasing a '00 VDP soon. I would like to know if anyone would care to share their opinion or advice on the wisdom of extending the original manufacturer's warranty on these models? The car is in very nice condition from all outward appearances and from driving it. The current owner has replaced the 6 CD changer and some valve cover gaskets and had a few other things looked at all by the local dealer. CarFax indicates no issues with repairs or any other reported damage. The VIN does not indicate Nikasil liners in the block. The car was driven by the original owner in the NY area for 4 years. Current owner is an independent dealer who got it at auction and has been using it personally for the past several months. It has not quite 49,000 miles on the odometer and is within one month or several hundred miles of the point where a decision must be made to extend the warranty or not. Here in VA this is possible apparently per Jaguar and the dealer I spoke with here. A few different time/mileage packages are available and the 84mo/85K terms seem to make the most sense in my situation here. The prices for the full exclusionary warranty seem to be in the mid $3000s for the $200 deductible to $5000 or so for the $0 deductible. Power train only would be somewhat less. The salesman I spoke with seems to be discouraging it and says the exclusionary is the better deal. To be fair to salesman, I spoke with one at another dealership who felt the power train warranty was really all that would be needed. Have been an admirer of these cars ever since I can remember and am looking forward to the driving. Regardless, I am anticipating that there will be repairs along the way, the question is how often and how much over the next 3 years? If any of you had some previous experience as to what these warranty deals are truly worth on this particular car I would surely appreciate hearing about it. I'm going to just assume that parts and labor combined are 2 or 3 times as expensive as they would otherwise be for similar repairs on more common cars? What's the wise choice here? Thanks in advance, pjg | ||||
