| Message: | Hi, My father died a few months back. He owned and loved his 1986 Jaguar XJ6 series III (184,000 miles). His Jag was an everyday driving car for him, but it was also a bit of a hobby, he spent thousands of dollars a year keeping it maintained and running and looking good (I have an inch wide folder of all the maintenance and repairs he put into the car in the past 10 years). Based on what I can tell, the car is currently in really good condition, with only a few minor issues (including; breaks pulse, speedometer and odometer are not accurate and stick, and one of the rear windows don't open). I was planning on selling the car, but after driving it for a bit I have literally fallen in love with it and would like to keep it. But I'm worried about maintenance costs; I don't have the same money or time as my dad did to put into it. I already know it gets poor gas mileage. But I've also heard that these cars are constantly breaking down, and their repair costs are high (I do not know how to work on cars so I would have to bring it to a shop). I was hoping that you could give me an idea about typical costs to maintain these Jags; and what I typically have to do on a yearly basis to maintain them in good order. Again, the car is currently in good to great conditions, so I don't think I need to put too much money up-front at first. If I keep the car, I would like to eventually use it as an everyday driver. Also, I don't have a garage, so it would be parked outside in the Portland OR weather (another worry of mine). Thanks! | ||||
