Re: Anyone experience harsh 1st to 2nd shifts? '05 (126 views)
Message: I have the 2004 XJB VDP which had the gear slam issue. I purchased it in Oct-08' with 32,000 miles.

The condition started in mid-winter and it got so bad that it would trigger the "Gearbox Fault" warning and go into "limp mode" (will not shift and max 30mph). There is a recall for a control module software upgrade but my car was not a in the VIN sequence.

I thank God I paid for the aftermarket extended warranty! The Jag dealer would only replace the transmission, as that is their policy, but the claim company refused to cover the cost ($9,000). I had to take it to a recommended rebuilder across the street. It was a total rebuild with a new valve body and TCM reflash from the dealer. The claim was covered ($3,900) and it took about two weeks with a claim adjuster involved.

It is much smoother now, but it still seems indecisive when driving on a long ascent, switching back and forth between two higher gears.

On another, maybe related note, I also have hesitation upon acceleration, at any speed. Most notably from a rolling stop. It drives my wife crazy because it's so difficult to get a smooth controlled acceleration without the jerking. It is best described as a hesitation you would experience in a car with a carburetor where the accelerator pump is defective.

Any insight into this would be helpful.

Lastly, does anyone have sticky brakes?
It's very hard to come to a smooth stop. Sort of the opposite of my acceleration issue. I think there is too much pedal travel too.
I have new pads & rotors all around (from the selling dealer, they did not do a rebuild).

Thanks for your patience.
