| Message: | | I'm coming up on the 2nd anniversary of owning my 2004 XJ8 and today, for the thirteenth time, I picked it up from the dealership for repairs. In two years I have put approx. 14,000 km on the car and it is averaging a visit to the dealership every 1,100km. This visit was even more frustrating because the car was in for warranty work and I had mentioned that the rear taillight chrome pieces were falling off. When I picked up the car I received a bill for $350.00 cdn. They told me the technician spent 2hrs repairing the chrome pieces as per a TSB. I go out to the car and checked out the workmanship. Turns out that they just glued them on to the red plastic lenses. I could see glue marks and seepage all along the edge. I had already paid the bill and when I went inside they said that they would make a note of it for my next service and attempt it again (not sure how they will pry the plastic away now that it is glued). On the way home I noticed that the power steering was acting "funny" as it became stiff and then loose at various times.
Discouraged with ownership and knowing that I have 1 yr left on my warranty and 3 left on financing....I drove to the mercedes dealership to test drive an E350. Nice car. Not an XJ8, but at least it's new, has good ratings, and will be under warranty.
Not sure what I'm going to do, but I must have a lemon and it will cost me a fortune to keep without the warranty...others say that they haven't had problems...but I definitely have.
