BMW have the identical issue with their 6 Speed Auto ZF gearbox in the X5, 530d & 730d. Even the part number is identical to that of the S Type. This is also shared with the Aston Martin DB9 which Jeremy Clarkson complained about bitterly on Top Gear recently - He said, Great Car Aston, but PLEASE sort out your Gear Box ... BMW tell you that it's a characteristic of the car - Albeit not one that I remember seeing advertised in the brochure ! If you look on thelurch.com as posted by some others who've had problems, you'll see that thankfully someone has added a BMW internal memo (TSB) telling dealers what to do IF customers complain. Interestingly, BMW have just announced the new 2007 X5 - And in that advertising blurb, they are proud of their "NEW" 6 Speed Auto Gearbox that enjoys "a 50% reduction in LAG TIME" - Fancy that .... ! The ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE, eh ?!!!
