Bombayduk,
This thing is sooo unfortunate, and I have to agree with your opinion.
This forum was a worthy one where everyone tried to share his/her true opinion and experiences. Empirical or scientific impressions alike, found their way through and contributed a lot to this info package.
As specific types/characters began to dilute the healthy discussions the whole board started to rot from the inside out. Now, its stability is greatly reduced. People must learn that a proper assessment has to be done without emotions. A product does this; tick the box. A product doesn't do that; tick another. It last 1 hour for me, it last 5 years for you - two more boxes and no more. When emotional links start to mix up things, the picture gets blurrier. This is the most important thing; the ability to assess without bantering. And this is still not a fully dry, objective thing.
When I was the Executive Editor of Hungary's 5th biggest car magazine, we had to decide which way we would go. Which signature cues we will choose to represent an educated opinion. If you do a comparo, you can make at least 2-3 cars a winner by deciding the main focus points. It is a kind of bias, but not in a brand-inspired way but rather a character/significance-inspired one.
If you represent dynamics with your magazine, an active, handling-optimized RWD car will be your choice. When you focus at the utmost quality, a Lexus will unavoidably be in the first row. And you are objective with both of these opinions.
I miss a similar viewpoint here, where people are passionate about the process, the pastime, and about the discussion itself. Products are just flavors; that make the time we spend here even more delicious.
