A pencil eraser generates a lot of friction, heat and residue - it may scar the surface or it may discolor certain materials. I'd test it carefully before using on door panels, etc. It works great on floors, you're correct, but interior materials aren't usually as durable/forgiving as flooring material.
Something like a Magic Eraser is all of $2-3, and you can use it multiple times on all sorts of surfaces. Simple Green is only a couple of bucks, too, so I'd rather err on the side of caution and spend a few dollars.
