| Message: | should i report this claim? After 30 years of accident-free driving, i have now had three freak front hits in 9 months in my small car. One was hitting a deer that leapt in front of me- didn't even have time to hit brakes- and was not even put on the collision part of the coverage, it was covered as comprehensive/act of god. The other two were both in the last three months and both hitting taller vehicles (a SUV and a pickup truck) who stopped short in front of me (one rolled back on incline, actually), only 5-10mph impacts, but causing their bumpers to go over mine and smash in my hood and grill to the tune of almost $2k damage (my car, a subaru, crumples like tinfoil with any hit at all). In both cases, the drivers took off. The last one was claimed and paid on my collision coverage. The new one was today. i didn't even call the cops, i was so upset. I can tell it's all the same damage i just had fixed six weeks ago, the hood and grill and tie-bar etc and a torn bumper cover, all had been brand new. In both cases, there would have been no damage if their bumpers weren't higher than mine- it would have just been bumper taps. I'm afraid that if i report this latest one to my insurance company (Amica, which only covers low-risk drivers), they'll cancel my coverage and ruin my insurance rating. I've been with them for 20+ years, have no accidents or tickets on my record, and only have had claims in last nine months, but they've been big claims. What's the likelihood that they will ditch me, trash my rating, or do something like double my premiums? i'm thinking about paying for this one out of pocket and not reporting it, but i bet it's another $1500 in damage (which would bring claims to $6k in 9 months). my deductibles's $500. Trying to figure out what their likely reaction will be and what i should do.... any advice? | ||||
