| Message: | I can't agree with you more- its the way these newer cars are put together that attracts from some of the clean styling. On the whole, the E92 coupe is not a bad looking design. They didn't add those hideous big chrome strips atop the kidneys (E90 sedan and 6er coupe), there's no bangle butt, the tail-lights are reminiscent of an 850 and the proportions are fine. But, the cut lines, especially on brighter cars, are terrible and disjointed. This can be attributed to the new bumpers which incorporate the grilles as one piece. as such, the cutline for the front hits at an angle at the top of the fender. then the cutline on the rear fender is not in line. And many new cars have those "L" shaped cutlines at the rear that start at the light, extend down, turn 90 degrees and continue horizontally towards the fender. In the E46, all the cut lines were horizontal and on the same plane. the front bumper cutline matched the rear bumper cutline, and they were connected by the bumper strips alongside the door to add to the length of the car- made it more clean looking than the jagged and incoherent cutlines today. And i don't see how the new hoods, which end above hte grilles and have cutlines right above them, look any more modern or classy than those gorgeous rounded hoods of the 90s incorporating the kidneys...why do away with that? My old 330- notice how you can virtually connect in a single, straight, horizontal line the front bumper cutline to the rear, no turns or twists. The gorgeous one-piece hood. ON the new cars, the cutline runs atop the headlights to the fender- it makes it look like the front piece is going to fall off! Dani Compain 1986 BMW 635CSi "RED SHRK" | ||||
