| Message: | "i was at the local BMW dealer and they said that it would not go away unless i had run-flats on it." The only thing a TPMS does is monitor the air pressure, nothing else. If I'm not mistaken, TPMS's started becoming popular with the current re-introduction of runflat tires (they actually first appeared many many years ago) because w/o a monitoring system, it could be difficult to impossible to realize you had a low tire or even a flat. But they don't differentiate between a runflat and a non-runflat. The only requirement is that you're using a pneumatic tire. The only point I can see that your dealer may be trying to make (but stating it poorly) is if you mounted a different sized tire on the wheel than came on the car and whose air pressure rating is different than the TPMS is expecting. I can see where that might cause the TPMS to give off false warnings because it may be pre-set for a certain pressure and it's sensing something different. I know too many local people who switched out runflats for non-runflats who never had a problem with the TPMS. Rusty '05 330i ZHP in Imola | ||||
