| Message: | Been here before...... First off, this can not be due to a bad ECU. The car will run without it. Well, not quite true, but it does not need it to run....only run well. If you only had spark on 3/4 plugs, that is a major factor. Are you sure about that during your diagnosis? I would strongly point at the ignition module on the firewall....if you've already replaced it, and stuff is still bad, check the wires to the connector for dryrot/shorting. This module is located in an area that sees a lot of heat, but also a lot of wet/dry changes. Wiring isulation goes bad in these conditions. Perhaps you just got lucky...er em...unlucky when the car was idling. I had the same thing happen one day on me and it turned out to be a partially corroted fuel pump fuse at the connection point, even though the fuse looked good visually. If you are now convinced that you have spark on all 4 cylinders, and that I am barking up the wrong tree, I go back to fuel delivery. Can you get the car to run for a few seconds on Ether? If so, fuel delivery is the culprit. Is it possible you have too much fuel delivery....ie, engine running too rich? Look for black sooty exhaust at the run point above 3500 rpm. Are the plugs wet when you check them? Could be a stuck plunger in the fuel distributor, or bad control fuel pressure. When you said "rebuilt the distributor" do you mean ignition or fuel? The fuel distributor is an easy thing to mess up if you went in tinkering. Good luck. | ||||
