The ECU on this car is a gray metal box located behind the glove box. It takes the signal from the O2 sensor and adjusts the air/fuel mixture. The car will run even with a bad O2 sensor. I suspect something else is wrong with your car, but I am not sure what. It sounds like you have done all the basic tests, especially checking vacuum leaks. Vacuum account for 99+ percent of all problems when people complain about driveability problems with the E21 cars. Lack of fuel? A bad ground somewhere? Electrical problems are a pain in old cars because of subtle corrosion on the contacts. Good luck.
