Message: No idea, but are you sure its not the key? The battery can die if it doesn't get much use. And some will sporadically not work. Mine will sometimes quit, then work again after using the key in the door a time or two.

By the way, a 2003 X5 is an E53, which is a different board. I have an E53 model but am thinking of a new one and snooping around here.
