Although you are correct that A/S tires are better, those of us with a set of real snow tires (with the snowflake) like Michelin Pilot Alpine, Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 or similar sneer at those that believe A/S tires are "good enough" or "the cat's meow" or whatever.
For real driving on snow - and that's admittedly needed only by a small percent of the driving population - snow tires are the only way to go. The difference between them and A/S tires is at least as great as the differences betwen A/S and summer tires.
