| Message: | Look, you've got summer performance tires on. In the snow, or any temperatures below around 45F, they're going to be as hard as the plastic case of your plasma tv. They don't have any sipes worth mentioning. The treads are not designed to clean themselves of packed snow. They're too wide. Look on the TireRack's website for their tests of winter tires (there's a link to the right.) While you're there, check out a wheel and tire package for snow tires. The problems you describe in braking and cornering are EXACTLY why you need snow tires on a 4WD vehicle. I'll bet that my son in his 335i with snow tires gets around better than your X5 with performance tires. And I'll be able to run circles around you in my 330xi with snows. | ||||
