| Message: | Discounts on new models, such as the 35d, are typically hard to get. My local dealer, who in the past gave me a $500 over invoice price for a Z4 performance center delivery, was quite frank when I asked about the X5... he said he could do an good deal on the gasoline versions, but that the diesel was in demand and since they could sell their allotment at MSRP, he could not do a good deal on that version. He suggested I either go for the gasoline version, or, if I could, wait 6-12 months for the initial excitement for the diesel to die down. P.S. As far as the dealer is concerned, he prefers you to pick it up locally, profitwise, as he makes money on the prepping of the vehicle, which is often a "spare time" activity for the techs. And there typically is no financing charge for the dealer on an ordered vehicle, as he has your money before he has to pay BMW. You could try on of those internet services to see if you could get a lower quote from a dealer as a comparison/negotiating tool. Sorry to be pessimistic, but it's all a demand vs. supply thing and right now the X5 diesel demand is higher than supply. | ||||
