Message: I just sold my '01 4.4i and ordered an '08 4.8i. The mileage difference between the 3.0i and 4.8i was only 1 mpg. On my 4.4i I averaged 19.4 mpg with mostly freeway driving. Two times that I was given a 3.0 X5 as a loaner the mileage indicated was around 17mpg. I honestly think that the less powerful engine has to work harder to push the heavier car resulting in less mileage. 12mpg? No way! If someone is getting that kind of mileage they either have a very poorly tuned car or they have an extreme case of lead foot!
