I have 130,000 miles on my '01 3.0, and my mechanic says the thrust arm (lower control arm) bushings are worn and need replacing. When I had my E34 540i, the ball joints on the other end of the arm wore out about the same time as the bushings, so it was easier just to replace the whole arm, bushings + ball joints and all. My mechanic says the ball joints don't wear so much in the newer BMW's. Anybody out there with first-hand experience?
