Message: I just turned 20,000 miles on my 2006 M5. I wish I would have never driven that car. I have tried every combination of electronics with no satisfaction. This SMG is the worst transmission I have ever owned without a doubt. I refer to my car now as Lurch. I have 500 horses, and i am scared to pull out in traffic. My wife hates to ride in it, and I don't blame her. I owned a 2001 M5, best car I ever owned. I still have the 2003 M3 I replaced the 5 with, and that car is a masterpiece. It is so nice to drive the M3 after a few days in the 06 5. I wouldn't buy a new M5 for half the price, because the SMG is an awful piece of engineering. I have owned manual transmissions all of my life, I am 56, and I have never been more frustrated with a gear box. My 1996 Z3 5 speed is more fun to drive.
