The biggest advantage I see in FIOS is competition. Cable has a virtual monopoly where I live. The bandwidth of the fiber cables that FIOS uses is practically unlimited. They can carry more channels at less (or even no) compression, compared to cable. People swear the picture quality is better using FIOS, because of the lack of compression. I don't know, because I've never seen it, but I would love to have the option.
The up and download speeds of the FIOS internet is also a lot faster than cable internet, because of the available bandwidth.
