| Message: | Well I fnally got around to installing the Stainless Steel Brake Lines I ordered from MWrench. This was my first time replacing brake lines and all-in-all it went pretty well. When the car is parked you cannot feel any difference, the brakes still feel mushy and the peddle goes almost to the floor. But as soon as I started driving I could definitely feel the difference; not as crisp as my 528i but definitely more firm than before. Glad I did it, this was a relatively inexpensive mod (<$100) and worth the money. The only real problem I hit was one nut that started to strip; I was so pissed and afraid I'd really screw it up that I had to leave the house for a while and then come back later and give it another try. After lots of WD40, rapping with a hammer and then grabing onto it for dear life with a vise grip, I got it to come loose. It was scary thinking of the mess it would have been if that nut stripped... Other than that the only hard part was getting the dam lug nuts off! Whoever worked on the car last (probably my indy) put them on so tight that I had to stand on the the lug wrench and bounce up and down to loosen them!!! At least I entertained my son for a while... I used Ate Super Racing brake fluid from Germany which exceeds Dot 4 standards and has a boiling point of 536 degrees. A cool feature is that the fluid is blue which makes it real easy to see when the new fluid starts coming out in the catch bottle. Also, I used a Brake Bleeder Kit with Catch Bottle from Bavarian Autosport to force the fluid through the brake lines; it worked really well. Only thing that was an issue was when I was done and there was still some fluid left in the lines just above the brake fluid fill canister. Couldn't figure out how to gracefully get it out and remove the cap from the filler without spilling some brake fluid. I wrapped paper towels around it and removed it and wiped up after; there's got to be a better way, suggestions appreciated for next time. Here are some pictures I took of the process, you can see: old and new brake lines, fluid coming out brown, then blue fluid coming out and the bleeder kit with hand pump and blue brake fluid. Cheers... ![]() Peter ""In every person who comes near you look for what is good and strong; honor that; try to imitate it, and your faults will drop off like dead leaves when their time comes."
