Ignition Key Problem - The BMW 8 Series (E31) Forum

Went to start my car ('93 850)and I can't get the key in the ignition slot.

When opening the drivers door I get a continuous chime (about 1 a second) and a message that reads: "Key In Ignition Lock"

What did I do to get this and how do I rectify ?
