CD43 in-dash CD into 88 750, success! (3731 views) (15993 thread views)
Message: About 20 minuites ago, I was finally successful in retrofiting a CD43 Business CD head unit from a 2002 Z3 into my old early 1988 750!

I had to splice in a later modular-type BMW connector (1991 and later E32 owners shouldn't need to go to this trouble, as BMW adopted this connector in '91 and stayed with it untill 2003 at least.)

I had trouble with the radio's CODE, the dealer-supplied code did not work.
I was fnally was able to switch the location setting on the unit to JAPAN (where no code is required!) Radio reception may be compromised, but I just do CDs so I don't care. Antenna is not even hooked up.

Once I pressed the 'M' button and held it for 10 seconds (during the limited window of availability just after radio power-on!) I was able to access the advanced settings menu, this is where I changed the region to JAPAN.

The sound quality is awesome, the unit dimms with the rest of the instruments, and of course looks stock, but totally modern.

It will even control an (i-bus, 1996-2003 BMW) changer as well!

I will eventually hook up an iPod via ICELink to the ibus.

I may also try to retrofit an E38/E39 steering wheel with the wheel-mounted control buttons. (CD43 will support that signaling.)

IT CAN BE DONE!
