Message: Try to pull it backwards towards the seat, the system is in such a way that is swings out towards the seat. Maybe the lock is then released, or push it forwards and then try, juggle etc.

This is the socalled gun box, that is the glovebox compartment which is on EU models additionally, here you can see the spring inside the latch, same system on the other side, maybe the pics help
