Well... a couple of things to consider... (54 views)
Message: I'm facing a similar problem right now. I'm about to jump on an e9 and I've been thinking about it more and more and I just don't think now is the right time for me. It's very easy to get emotionally caught up in the thrill of getting a new ride and your logic can get kind of skewed.

Some thoughts about your M6... I have heard a lot of success stories about sound deadening on these vehicles. If road noise is an issue, you can take the car to any REPUTABLE audio shop and ask that they put dynamat in the doors, floors and trunk. It's heavy, but it makes a big difference in cutting down on road noise and will help with your sound issue (I would guess 20-30% noise reduction). Get a decent pioneer head unit with a small amp and some newer speakers...

This all shouldn't cost more than a total of $500 or so and you'll wind up with a good radio that you can hear with good sound quality and much less road noise.

Can't do much about the a/c. I live in South Florida so believe me when I say I know about heat and I have to give you that the a/c systems in these cars just suck. All I can say is close all your sliders to the left when your a/c is on so only unmixed cool air comes in. I found out that trick several years after I bought my 85 635 years ago and couldn't figure out why the air was so freaking warm (I had the center slider open e.g. full right which mixes it with the outside air).

Performance, like I said, you can make comparable to an e36 m3 with not much money - maybe $800 at absolute most for springs, struts and swaybars.

So just think - for $1500 or thereabouts you can get your M6 to the point where it's quiet, enjoyable and you still get to keep a timeless piece of automotive history.

There's not many e36-fests out there. Wonder why.
