| Message: | Hi all, I recently have had a manual gear box (g265) installed by my mechanic in my RHD 1986 635. TO keep costs down, I suggested that he handle all the 'oily bits' and that I would finish off wiring, trim etc Got the car back the other day, and it drives well enough, however I have a few questions to anyone who may have attempted the manual conversions in the past. What gear oil is recommended for this box? (g265) There seems to be a substantial amount of gear / engine noise coming up thought the gear lever hole in the trans tunnel. Has anyone else had the same issue? Other that the rubber boot, there does not seem any other sound insulation there, should there be some thing else in this location? Does the sound insulation under the carpet differ between an manual and auto car? Can anyone send me a photo or diagram of the 'helper' spring on the clutch pedal? I have no idea how this is meant to fit together and the clutch is heavy :P Engine also had a problem returning to idle with the auto. On a trailing throttle, the engine would almost stall before picking up again and hunting up and down a few cycles before settling on a steady idle. The engine would also hunt up and down for the first few minutes on a cold start. The problem is worse when hot, the motor will stall on a trailing throttle. While this was inconvenient with the auto, it has made driving with the manual gbox very difficult. I plan to have a look at the idle position switch on the throttle body, does anyone know what else to look at to resolve this problem? I realise that I may have just opened a large box of worms, but any help on any of the above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all in advance Z | ||||
