| Message: | I'm thinking of installing an MAF conversion (1985 635CSiA) from a company like Miller or Split Second. This is partly in a quest for more power and better throttle response, but also because I have a feeling my stock AFM is bad. Compression is good, 130K well-maintained miles, but the car feels like it's down on power and just doesn't "respond" the way I think it should, even allowing for its measly 8:1 compression ratio. Once I had to have the AFM adjusted to pass emissions, and was told by a BMW tech that I'd eventually need a new AFM. I don't know much about them. So first of all, what are the symptoms of a bad AFM? Would a "sticky" AFM cause poor response and low power because the barn door isn't opening as quickly/as fully as it should? Is it worth fixing or replacing vs. converting to an MAF? Also, I'd like to hear from anyone who's converted to an MAF (especially on an M30) and get your impressions. A photo would be real nice too. I've done a search and read past feedback which is mostly positive, but I know companies like Miller are always coming out with "improved" versions of their MAF kits and I'd like an update. Thanks! ![]() LarryM in SoCal | ||||
