Need help diagnosing locking problem 1994 e34 530i (51 views) (51 thread views)
Message: Hello,

I have a 1994 e34 530it (wagon) with the following central locking problem and would be grateful for any advice:

1. When locking the doors using the lock buttons or the key in the driver's door, the locks automatically unlock.

2. They stay locked however if one of the following are done:

2a. Double lock from the driver's door key
2b. Change positions on the gear selector. If in drive and you lock the doors using any door button they stay locked the first time locked. Unlock and re-lock and they pop up. Change positions on the gear selector to any other position and they stay locked until unlocked and relocked when they unlock automatically.

I have already disconnected each lock actuator one at a time and the problem is not with one of them.

My suspicion is that there is a control module, switch, sending unit etc either with a bad connection or simply faulty.

Additionally, I know that I have a short in one of the circuits feeding to the rear of the car. Affected are the rear hatch, sunroof and the interior dome lights. Not sure if related to the locking problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dave Hollander
