Re: Resetting the service light! (270 views)
Message: Hey , I know that this is not a timely reply but I figure out the oil service reset by playing (i do not reccommend playing with the buttons) with the buttons in my car. First of all, my car is an 04 530i. I do not know if this procedure works on other vehicles.
1) Turn the ignition on to position 2. This is the position before start.
2) Press and hold the odometer trip reset button that protrudes from the instrument display.
3) Continue to hold this button after you see the caution symbol(triangle with exclamation point)on the instrument display.
4) Release the button as soon as the first reset option is shown ( I think it will be the one for 0il. You can select a different reset option by pressing the button as the display will show a different pictorial option with each press of the button.
5)Press and hold the button once the desired reset option is shown.
6)Release the button when you see the "Reset?" message.
7) Press and hold button again and the option you selected will reset.

A couple of things to note:
During this process if you do not respond/continue process within 3 to 5 seconds between button presses, the process will terminate and you will have to start over. This does no harm. It may take a couple of tries before you get it right. All indicators can be reset using this method.
