| Message: | | I have a 1993 525i manual with 328,000 miles on it. The engine has never had the head off of it, and the transmission has never been rebuilt (just a few clutches). Bought in 1999 with 67K on it.
I truly believe manual transmission cars last long than automatics because of the linear progression of RPM under load when driving. Automatics, when you punch the gas, shift down and bring the RPMs up fast under load. If you shift down correctly in a manual, you bring the RPMs up with the clutch in, reducing wear.
At least that's my theory...........
