| Message: | Hey Ray, Over the past 2 months, I have discovered the source of the smell...are you sitting down? The back speaker shelf, actually called the parcel shelf, has a thin layer of a rubberized material underneath a thick layer of foam padding. It is the rubberized material that degrades and then smells (wreaks). To test/check this, open your trunk and reach up through one of the cut-outs in the parcel shelf...feel around with your fingers and grab a piece of the rubber material (your fingers will now stink of the musty smell). If your prefer, tear off a small piece and examine it...you will find that it cracks easily and essentially disintegrates as it is handled. I had to disasseble the parcel shelf in my car, rip out the material, and then take it to the dealership before they would believe me. I also had BMW NA involved and while they did (finally) replace the foam padding (minus the rubber material) I am extremely unhappy because, in my strong opinion, BMW knows the issue and is not disclosing it to owners. They keep directing people to the AC and keep insisting that it is dirty AC colis...what a crock... I have been short on time recently, but want to find a few other folks who have had this issue and start a class action lawsuit...I feel that it is important to bottom out this issue in the name of consumer justice.... | ||||
