| Message: | Bought the car new. Took delivery in November of 2000. Followed break-in procedures. Changed the oil at 2k miles and then RELIGIOUSLY every 5-7.5k miles using BMW 5W-30 High Performance Synthetic Motor Oil. I've done that for the 113k miles the car now has on it. You state it "should be zero" but then say max. permissible is 1 qt/1k miles. That's a hell of a swing between "should be" and "permissible". Regular and routine maintenance has been performed for the life of the car. I know that for sure as I am the one who has done most of it. I live in Connecticut where the yearly temps can swing from lows of 0 degrees to highs close to 100 degrees. The car hasn't been tracked and for the most part, I do about 85% highway driving. The car is not beat upon. I do drive it a bit harder on occasion (when traffic...or lack thereof....permits, and no passengers) but that is a relatively rare occurrence. I will be sending a sample of the most recent oil change out for analysis just to see where it stands. In your opinion, based on what I have told you here as accurate, what would contribute to losing a quart every 3500 miles? For the record, I am not blaming the car nor anything else. I do not mind adding the quart between oil changes and feel that is within reason based on the climate and the type of motor it is. | ||||
