How much oil does your E46 Eat/use? - The BMW 3 Series (E46) Forum

should be -= ZERO =- oil added between oil changes at 6-month,
or 5,00 oil chance intervals.

anything thing more than that is a car that has fallen off the maintainence wagon at some point during it's life.
And that includes bouts with over heating cooling systems,
ANY engine leaking, driving habits, climate,
and the nutt behind the wheel.

Max. Permissible oil consumption is 1 Qt. per 1,000 miles
when testing for oil consumption.

The reality is anything is possible given the abuse, neglect,
sever driving conditions, and lousy maintainence provided
by many car owners. Can't blame the car.
