| Message: | Neither car broke 50K though. I would guess that an E46 that was correctly broken in and well maintained would not start using any measurable amount of oil (at least as would be indicated by the dipstick) until after 100K miles. This can be misleading though as burned oil can be replaced with "diluting" fuel and the dipstick would show little or no change. The best indicator of this would be to have an oil analysis done especially if the oil smells of fuel. Polaris labs is one place that does oil analysis at a reasonable cost...and IIRC, the first test may be free. Don't quote me though.
