100K spark plugs (66 views)
Message:
Some of the BMW spark plugs are the "long life" variety good for 100,000 miles.

Supposedly.

They are not cheap. I recall spending $25 each on them (!!!). The standard plugs are like $8 retail.

I just replaced the plugs in the X5 (80K miles) and the old ones looked fine. But I had to take the coils out to replace the valve cover gasket, so, what the heck. I went with the OEM plugs, which I think was an NGK or something. Cheap, too.

The coils are over $100 apiece, so I can understand replacing only one of those.....

I have heard of very bad things regarding Bosch Platinums. Supposedly too cold for some cars. Had a misfiring problem in my Toyota 4x4 once. Replaced the "new" Bosch Platinums with OEM NGK's and it went away.

FWIW.
