| Message: | I was shocked when replacing the T-belt on my 88 325is 144K mls, I dont think it was ever replaced. the belt was not even riding on the tensioner pulley... for real, it was just slapping around with tension only where the crank pulls the cam. I hope I'm wrong from what I see on my 325is, Bentley says: position the tensioner in place with the bottom bolt on then position the guide pin with the spring and move the tensioner pulley to the left so that you can put the top bolt on then tighten it. My question is: With time the belt will expand (wear) and minimize contact with the pulley? Then what? Do I have to make adjustments? This does not make sense to me... Maybe the belt or tensioner was replaced and wrong bolts used? After I tighten the bolts I don't see any movement of the tensioner.
