| Message: | Mea culpa. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa . . . I'm posting this so that other stupid people won't feel too embarrassed about posting their solutions, even when their solutions are really basic, and involve gross negligence on the part of the stupid person . . . After four MONTHS of working on what appeared to be a cold-start problem and gradually morphed into a mixture-related difficulty (see "One problem down, one to go" in this string), I finally got desperate and pissed off enough to start considering other alternatives: in about fifteen minutes I took off the hood, pulled the radiator, and removed the distributor cap, where there's a huge, gaping crack. I mean, it goes all the way across the cap, from one edge to the other! You can see your HAND through the goddamn thing! The third bolt, the one on the bottom, is probably the only thing that kept the lower half from falling off and hitting me on the foot while I was standing there, trying to find something wrong with the FI system. In my own defense, I offer the following observations: 1) You shouldn't have to pull the radiator to check the distributor cap and rotor. 2) I'm the kind of guy that likes to jump straight to the heart of the matter, not piss around with basics. 3) I was IN THERE, in November, when I replaced the timing belt, and there was NOTHING GODDAMN WRONG!!! I'll pick up a new cap and rotor tomorrow, if the stores are open, and check to make sure that this is it; if so, we can finally close out this string. (Sorry, Geez Tech: I know I'm a disappointment to you.) What can I tell you - I've learned a lot. Neil | ||||
