| Message: | | After reading about the issues with engine heat and cone intake filters on e30s, I finally began fabricating one yesterday. I used sheet metal aluminum and rivets, with rubber gaskets made for the bottom of garage doors to create a better seal. Also for the portion where the AFM enters the heatshield, I found in the roofing section of home depot a piece that's made to slip over vent pipes on roofs to waterproof them. It's sheet metal with a rubber rounded gasket, it worked perfectly to seal off the hole for the AFM. Very handy if you're making your own, less parts to fabricate, less parts to screw up. Total cost(including rivets, rivet gun, sheet metal shears) about $40, compared to upwards of $130 plus for the premade piece from signature motoring.
