| Message: | This is a simple problem. The suspension spheres are in need of replacement. I had to do the same thing to my '89 Turbo R. The spheres are literally two green metallic spheres that are in the top of the boot (trunk) partially hidden behind a small flap of carpet. They are filled halfway with nitrogen and the other half gets filled with hydraulic fluid. Between these two is a diaphram. The hydraulic fluid pushes on the diaphram when you go over bumps and provides a "spring" affect. If the diaphram ruptures, which they all do eventually, the fluid fills the entire sphere and you know longer have any give in the system. Hence the rough ride. Order new ones from http://www.flyingspares.co.uk/. They call them "rear gas springs", by the way. Part # GMF1106P. Your mechanic may need a "chain wrench" (http://www.sears.com/shc/s/search_10153_12605?vName=Tools&keyword=%22chain+wrench%22&sLevel=0) to remove the old ones as they're usually quite stuck. If you happen to live in the VA/DC/MD area, I'd be happy to help you with this some weekend. It's a 20 minute job. --Rob Hook | ||||
